Hi, I'm Hope. Back in September 2021 I published a blog post about some really difficult things that happened to me while sailing as an engine cadet aboard a Maersk cargo ship. I shared my story because I didn't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else, but I never imagined how big my story would become. The attention my story received and the scrutiny I came under as a result was pretty intense.Since the story came out, I’ve been focused on finishing school, but lately I’ve also been thinking about becoming more active in advocating for real changes that will protect cadets and other crew members out at sea.
